Getting Started Guide
New to Ingestics? This guide walks you through your first API or RSS fetch in 5 minutes.
Prerequisites
WordPress 5.8 or higher. PHP 7.4 or higher. MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.3+.
Step 1: Install Ingestics
Download Ingestics from WordPress.org or install directly from your WordPress dashboard:
- Go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for “Ingestics”
- Click Install Now, then Activate
After activation, a new “Ingestics” menu appears in your WordPress admin sidebar.
Step 2: Create your first provider
A provider is a configured API endpoint or RSS feed with its settings, field mapping, and publishing rules.
- Go to Ingestics → API Providers → Add New (or RSS Providers for feeds)
- Enter a name (e.g., “Weather API”)
- Enter the endpoint URL or feed URL
- Select the post type for imported content (post, page, product, or custom)
- Click Save
Step 3: Configure authentication
For API providers, select the authentication method that matches your API:
- None — For public APIs
- API Key — Sent as query parameter or header
- Bearer Token — OAuth2 token in Authorization header
- Basic Auth — Username and password
All credentials are encrypted with AES-256-CBC before storage. See Security and Encryption for details.
Step 4: Map fields
Map the API response fields or RSS feed fields to WordPress post fields:
- API: use JSON-path notation (e.g.,
data[0].title,items[*].name) - RSS: standard feed fields (title, description, link, author, pubDate, categories)
See Content Mapping for detailed instructions.
Step 5: Fetch
Click Fetch Now to test your provider. Ingestics fetches the data, parses it, creates WordPress posts, and displays a summary:
- Number of items found
- Number of posts created
- Number of duplicates skipped
- Any errors encountered
Step 6: Set a schedule (Lite+)
On the free edition, fetches are manual. Upgrade to Lite ($49) to enable scheduled fetches:
- Every 2 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours
- Every 12 hours + custom intervals (Pro)
- All intervals with independent API/RSS schedules (Business)
See Scheduling for configuration details.
