RSS/Atom Feed Fetcher for WordPress – Ingestics

RSS 2.0 and Atom Feed Support

Ingestics fetches both RSS 2.0 and Atom feeds natively. The parser handles namespaced extensions, media enclosures, and custom feed elements without requiring additional plugins or configuration. Whether your source publishes standard RSS or Atom XML, the fetcher normalises both into a consistent post structure.

Auto-Discovery

When you enter a website URL, Ingestics scans the page for <link rel="alternate"> tags and automatically discovers available feeds. You do not need to know the exact feed URL – paste the site address and the plugin finds the feed for you.

Full-Text Extraction

Many RSS feeds publish only a summary or excerpt. Ingestics includes a full-text extraction engine that follows the article link and retrieves the complete content. The extractor strips navigation, sidebars, and scripts, returning clean HTML ready for WordPress. This is a Lite-tier feature.

Provider Health Monitoring

Ingestics tracks the health of every RSS provider. If a feed stops updating, returns errors, or publishes no new items over a configurable threshold, the plugin flags the provider as stale. The health dashboard shows each provider’s last successful fetch, item count, and error history so you can act before your site goes silent.

RSS Source Folders

Organise providers into logical folders. Group feeds by topic, source type, or any taxonomy that fits your workflow. Source folders make it easy to manage large numbers of providers and apply bulk actions like scheduling or toggling.

OPML Import and Export

Import an existing feed collection via OPML file upload. Export your entire feed library to OPML for backup or migration. This is useful when moving between sites or sharing feed configurations with team members.

Podcast and Audio Layout

For feeds that include media enclosures – podcasts, audio attachments, or video enclosures – Ingestics preserves the enclosure data and renders it in a player-friendly layout. The enclosure URL, file type, and file size are stored as post meta for use in templates.

Feed Library with Curated Collections

The feed library provides a browsable collection of pre-vetted RSS sources organised by category. Add a curated source with a single click, or contribute your own feeds to the library for other Ingestics users.

Frequently Asked Questions

What feed formats does Ingestics support?

Ingestics supports both RSS 2.0 and Atom feeds. The parser also handles common extensions such as Media RSS, Dublin Core, and Content namespaces.

How does full-text extraction work?

When enabled, Ingestics follows the article link in the feed and extracts the main content using a readability algorithm. It strips boilerplate elements like navigation, sidebars, and footers, returning clean HTML for your WordPress post.

What happens when a feed stops updating?

The health monitoring system tracks each provider’s last successful fetch and item count. If a feed returns errors or publishes no new items beyond your configured threshold, the provider is flagged as stale on the dashboard so you can investigate or replace it.
